A supportive living environment for young, single parent households
(ages 16 to 24) & their children. The program's goal is to assist young, single parents while they obtain the skills they need to live independently.
- Redfield House consists of 23 one and two bedroom apartments subsidized under HUD's Section 8 Program.
- Each apartment has a full bath & a kitchen.
- Heat & hot water are included in the monthly rent.
- There are indoor & outdoor play areas for children, en elevator & laundry facilities.
- A live-in resident assistant is in charge of building security & provides support services.
- Residents are responsible for purchasing their own groceries, cooking their meals & maintaining their apartments.
Redfield House provides young families with an environment in which they can learn together and support each other. Young parents attend school or work during the day & participate in a variety of on-site programs.
- Residents are offered parenting & life skills training to meet their particular needs.
- The range of available services include: individual counseling in the areas of education and job placement as well as parenting skills and personal growth issues;
- Referrals to community resources;
- Group counseling in the areas of parenting, money management, home management, career planning & family and social relationships.
- Each resident is assigned a case manager who provides advocacy, referral and support services designed to help them reach their personal goals.
On site support services include:
- The Redfield Infant/Toddler Center - Infants are accepted at 6 weeks and can stay through the toddler years. Daily programs and child care are arranged to meet the needs of developing children and their families.
- The McInerney Parent Center - Offers interaction groups for parents and their children. By engaging in these groups, young parents recognize the relationship between playing with their children and health development. Play groups are held for infant, toddler and preschool aged children. The center also offers support groups, parent education, family advocacy and support for families with special needs.
- Passages/Healthy Families - Is a program of Child Care of the Berkshires which provides home visits for mothers who are pregnant and/or have children under age three.
